The Versace story starts with Gianni Versace. Gianni’s mother was a dressmaker, and growing up, he watched her sewing in admiration. When he graduated high school, he worked in his mother’s shop before moving to Milan in 1972 and working for several Italian ateliers. In 1978 with some backing, Gianni Versace set up his own eponymous label and launched his first ready-to-wear show that same year. Gianni’s brother Santo Versace became CEO and his sister Donatella was Vice President and designer. Throughout the 80s and 90s, Versace built a fashion empire that oozes sensuality and although the brand was described as vulgar by some of his fiercest critics, Versace was unfazed by this. His seasonal fashion shows were like concerts, attracting the celebrity glitterati such as Madonna, Elton John, and Naomi Campbell, Christy Turlington, Cindy Crawford and the rest of the Supermodel elite all walked his runways. Gianni Versace is credited with turning the fashion world into the high-powered industry it is today. By the mid 90s, Versace had multiple boutiques across the USA, he was designing and showing haute couture and ready-to-wear, designing costumes for Operas and Ballets and his business was booming. Sadly in 1997, at the peak of his career, Versace was tragically murdered on the steps of his Miami home. Donatella Versace took over the Versace company after her brother’s death and continued to push things forward. Having now expanded to create men’s, women’s and children’s clothing, handbags, jewellery, fragrance and homeware, living the Versace life has never been easier. Under the watchful eye of Donatella and her daughter Allegra, Versace continues to thrive today and is loved by many high profile celebrities such as Jennifer Lopez, Kim Kardashian, Madonna and Christina Aguilera. Donatella was also responsible for the addition of Young Versace (now also known as Versace) to the Versace family. First launched in 2010, with its first store opening in Milan in 2011, Versace kids is the epitome of luxury and high-fashion for mini-fashionistas. Infused with elements of the adult collections, the iconic Medusa head and Baroque print adorns everything from Versace baby grows to Versace kids shoes. Versace children will feel elegant wearing their luxurious pieces, available from baby to fourteen years. For a bold, timeless, luxury look shop Versace kids clothes today.
