Ralph Lauren’s story is a real rags to riches affair. Born in the Bronx, New York City to a Jewish family, he is remembered by his college friends for his enterprising and entrepreneurial spirit, which led him to create one of the world’s largest fashion and apparel empires and become a global household name. Likened to Walt Disney for his ability to create entirely immersive worlds, he built his empire on an optimistic and idealised take on preppy America, offering not just fashion but an appealing way of life. After leaving college with no qualifications, Lauren started his fashion career working for Brooks Brothers, but it was his work for tiemakers Beau Brummell that really launched his career. In 1967, whilst still working for the company, he was given permission to start his own line of ties under the name ‘Polo Ralph Lauren’. His style of tie went against the fashion trends of the time; his were wide and made from handmade fabrics. Working from a single drawer in an office in the Empire State Building it was these humble beginnings which led Ralph Lauren to have such amazing successes today. Selling $500,000 worth of ties in his first year, by 1969 Ralph Lauren had been given his own dedicated area of Bloomingdales to sell his garments; he was the first designer to be offered his own in-store boutique at the world famous store. In 1971, Lauren designed some tailored shirts for women; these were the first garments to feature his iconic polo player emblem on the cuff of the shirt, but it was the arrival of his polo shirts in 1972 which featured the emblem on the chest, that really helped to launch the Ralph Lauren empire. With the slogan ‘Every Team has its colour-Polo has 17’, although it was unknown at the time, Ralph Lauren had created a little piece of fashion history. Today, Ralph Lauren is known for its timeless elegance and truly is an iconic lifestyle brand, offering a little taste of luxury to consumers across the world. Ralph Lauren kids is the perfect embodiment of the Ralph Lauren aesthetic. From Ralph Lauren baby through to Ralph Lauren kids, choose from the iconic polo shirts, beautiful dresses, classic rompers, sweatshirts, hooded sweatshirts, jogging bottoms and much more, all perfectly finished with the Ralph Lauren or Ralph Lauren Polo Sport branding. Alongside this, choose from more trend-led seasonal pieces too in sizes 0-20 years.
