The creators of Dolce & Gabbana childrenswear are Italian designers Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana. They met in 1980, but even from their early days, their lives were destined to be filled with fashion. In 1982, the pair launched a fashion consultancy which eventually resulted in the formation of their own label; Dolce & Gabbana was born and a shared love of a Mediterranean aesthetic went on to become a global brand. Their runway debut “Real Women” took place at Milan Fashion Week in 1985 and was both youthful and exuberant in comparison to other fashions of the time. Although sales from their first collection were disappointing, Dolce’s family helped the pair to pay for fabric for their second collection which was launched in 1986, and coincided with the opening of their first store. By their fourth collection, the Italian fashion market started to take notice of the pair. One of the most important pieces from their fourth collection was the ‘Sicilian Dress’ which went on to be named one of the most important dresses ever designed. This dress is considered the most representative piece of this era for the brand, and has been reissued and reimagined numerous times throughout their history. As early as the nineties, Dolce & Gabbana began to branch into other areas of fashion such as accessories, fragrance and knitwear whilst gaining a worldwide reputation for creating sensual womenswear and classic menswear. Dolce & Gabbana kids was launched in 2001. As with most fashion houses, Dolce & Gabbana have a set of well-established codes such as animal prints, gangster-boss pinstripe suits, lace and of course the wonderful Sicilian tile-print used famously in their Sicilian dresses and their Dolce & Gabbana kids dresses. Some of their most recent collections have also included fun cartoon characters of themselves! Dolce & Gabbana boys are spoilt for choice whether they prefer understated t shirts, pants and jogging bottoms or louder prints. For a Dolce & Gabbana girl, it’s floral and animal prints galore, adorning skirts, sweatshirts, t shirts, jogging bottoms and of course iconic Dolce & Gabbana girls dresses.
