Pucci has arrived – Mini-Me Inspired Styles

Pucci’s first collection for Harper Bazaar

What is Pucci…

Born in 1914 Emilo Pucci, is heir to one of Italy’s most patrician families. Pucci and his eponymous company are synonymous with geometric prints in a kaleidoscope of colors. His sleek designs caused a sensation and his first clothes were designed for the Reed College skiing team. Hardly surprising as he was a member of the Italian Olympic ski team.  1947 saw Pucci create a streamlined ski outfit he had designed for a female friend which was photographed by Toni Frissell who worked for Harper’s Bazaar. Following this Pucci designed ski wear for an European Winter Fashion which ran in 1948 winter edition of Bazaar.

Pucci set up his atelier in the family’s grand palazzo in the heart of Florence. Working closely with expert fabric manufacturers in Italy to pioneer revolutionary stretch fabrics. Pucci was driven by the desire to liberate women, granting them freedom of movement. The idea behind his designs were to captivate a new audience by using stretch silk and cotton jerseys which are weightless, unlined and wrinkle-proof for the modern wardrobe.

During the 1950’s he began developing signature prints. Geometric patterns were incorporated into the clothing, this highly original approach, crowned him “The Prince of Prints”. Drawing inspiration from the natural landscapes of the Mediterranean and the exotic locales which he travelled. Pucci achieved international recognition and received various awards from across the world. By the 1960’s the Pucci name was one of the hottest looks of the early sixties which was given greater status when celebrities such as Sophia Loren and Jackie Kennedy were spotted in Pucci. Marilyn Monroe became a huge fan it is believed that she collected Pucci items in multiples, she favoured flesh tones, leafy greens, shocking pinks and mauve’s. Marilyn is said to have been buried in the green Pucci dress pictured.

The Florentine Italian fashion designer became known for his sensual free flowing lines which followed the natural curves of the body. The idea of effortlessly elegant clothing which could take women from day to evening. After Emilo Pucci’s death in 1992, his daughter Laudomia Pucci, continued to design under the Pucci name.  Pucci clothes and accessories are sold throughout boutiques and high end department stores. The fashion house is renowned for producing ready-to-wear clothes and accessories.

Made in Italy…

When fashion wears the art, during the restoration of the Baptistery of Florence in Piazza Dummo the scaffolding was covered in a giant scarf .

‘Monumental Pucci’ is inspired by the Battistero scarf from the archives of Emilio Pucci. Designed by the Marquise Emilio Pucci in 1957, the print interprets an aerial view of Piazza San Giovanni, in the brilliant colours of Mediterranean landscapes: vibrant lemon yellow, orange, fuchsia and the emblematic Emilio pink.

This promoted and revived the “Made in Italy” in an order for one economy to help the other and vice versa and promote art and fashion.
