MSGM Kids Clothes
MSGM was created for a young fashion adoring public, that love trends but aren’t slaves to designer labels and fashionable without being fashion victims. Mostly aimed at lovers of streetwear, clothes are offered in a kaleidoscope of colours and with an innovative use of logos. Founded in 2009, designer Massimo Giorgetti saw a gap in the Italian fashion market for clothes that were young, fun and modern in a Milanese style, but not of the same high price point as some of the more well-established Italian fashion houses. It was fashion for the style set; fashion made for influencers and therefore embraced by them as a result. This is MSGM Kids Clothes 2018.
MSGM: What’s in a name?
Never look back, it’s all ahead-Massimo Giorgetti
MSGM was coined by designer and creator Massimo Giorgetti and is a collection of his own initials, the initials of a loved one and those of two of his close friends, who gave him their full backing in the early days when he was establishing the brand. As a lover of indie music, Giorgetti was also inspired by the band MGMT who took their name from a shortened version of the word Management. Club and beach culture has always been at the heart of the MSGM aesthetic; Giorgetti grew up in a vibrant Rimini, Italy and was previously a DJ, so music was always a huge influence on the brand’s dynamic. The MSGM message was loud and clear from the outset; it was relentless, a wind of pure energy for the fashion-forward and social-networking style-set.
MSGM: A Young Brand With An Interesting Timeline
2009: MSGM was first established. The brand’s first collection in 2009 was made up of computerised psychedelic prints in fluorescent colours. This was the secret to the brands immediate success.
2010: MSGM was enlisted as a ‘Vogue talent’ for being one of the best emerging names in the industry.
2013-2014: MSGM collaborated with independent visual magazine “Toilet Paper” to create fun, printed images on their clothing, fusing fashion and contemporary art together and playing with the boundaries of creativity and humour.
2015: Massimo Giorgetti is appointed creative director of Pucci. MSGM on the other hand, has new store openings in Hong Kong, Dubai, Singapore and a shop in shop inside the Takashimaya Mall. MSGM also collaborates with artist Nico Vascellari on project Codalunga; an experimental project showing dark, underground moods and featuring collages that tell stories or describe a moment or an emotion.
2016: MSGM expands their retail network with five new locations in Tokyo, a second store in Dubai, Hong Kong and Beijing. There are two more collaborations in this year, one know as ‘Moon Boots’, referred to as the quintessential mountain shoe and a second, the ‘Henry Hussey X MSGM’ collection with artist Henry Hussey. ‘Moon Boots’ featured ten models and three different styles and was a celebration of quality, innovation, colour, joy, the holidays and fun. The Henry Hussey X collection spotlighted art as emotional expression, and featured romantically worded graphics and slogans.
2017: MSGM expands into Asia with a store in Shanghai and a new space in Seoul. Giorgetti launches the MSGM Spotify channel, a personal playlist that sums up the brand’s musical aesthetic and offers the style-set a new way of adding MSGM into their lives. An MSGM store is also opened in La Rinascente, a department store in Milan. The MSGM and Diadora collection was also launched in this year, which resulted in two seasonal collaborations that rewrote Diadora’s classic codes in a new and contemporary style.
MSGM launches it’s creative project with Eastpak, a unique capsule collection started in 2014. Described by the brand as a ‘complete toolkit for navigating the urban landscape’, it featured MSGM’s bold and bright colours featured on Eastpak’s iconic forms and cool accessories such as detachable keyring and interchangeable shoulder straps.
