Spectacular Designer Childrenswear Black Friday Launch
Last week, our spectacular Designer Childrenswear Black Friday Launch took place in our new Sunderland store. Businesses, press, bloggers and a loyal customer base were invited to the store to partake in an evening of merriment, music and discounts galore. Our new store is situated in Derwent Street in Sunderland City Centre but the business was first established in 1984 and has grown to become one of the largest independent children’s fashion retailers in the UK. Founded by British husband and wife team Brenda and Kevin Coade, their determination and passion for their work has seen the successful business grow rapidly into an amazing fashion destination, stocking over 160 brands and shipping to 120 countries worldwide. Such rapid growth made the relocation to a larger premises an inevitable eventuality and the stunning new store opened in October 2018, seeing the business relocate from Olive Street back to Derwent Street, where it was originally established. Boasting 4000 square feet of retail space across two floors, the store is home to a prestigious selection of brands such as Dolce & Gabbana, Gucci and Givenchy to name a few.
The store launch celebrated everything that is great about Designer Childrenswear and also championed other local independent businesses in and around the Sunderland area, who helped to make the evening a roaring success. It is also worth mentioning that this fabulous evening couldn’t have gone ahead without the support given from Visualsoft, who provided a portion of the funding for the event. Visualsoft are responsible for hosting our successful e-Commerce site and for aiding the business online.
A Christmas event wouldn’t be complete without decorations, and our fabulous Christmas window was provided by Seaham-based bespoke interior design company TCL at Home, who dressed the cheeky elf-themed trees and brought along post boxes for visiting children to send those all important letters to the North Pole. Then, as a nod to Black Friday and the Designer Childrenswear brand logo, black and gold was incorporated beautifully into balloon displays by Ryton-based business Just Balloons. Established in 1991, they are a leading provider in balloons for all occasions, offering exemplary customer service and the best in the latest on-trend designs for both personal and corporate events. Finally, the glamorous black carpet was rolled-out for customers thanks to the wonderful JC Events, who provided both this and an elegant golden-framed television for the evening’s presentation, alongside Cherry Blossom florists who also supplied a beautiful bouquet for our shop’s counter. These fabulous additions cleverly accented the store’s grandeur and the decorations have provided a wonderfully festive focal point for customers for the Christmas countdown.
For the evening’s refreshments, Designer Childrenswear teamed up with the wonderful Port of Call, who provided a pop-up specialist Gin and fizz bar for the occasion. Situated in Sunderland’s Park Lane, just a stone’s throw away from the Derwent Street store, Port of Call is the perfect place to catch up with friends over food, grab an after work drink or have a great night out. Accompanying the gin, delicious corporate cupcakes were personally and beautifully handcrafted by Durham’s Heaven Sent cupcakes.
Whilst guests browsed the brands with a glass of fizz, entertainment for the evening was provided by the Bunker Singing Club, a young person’s singing group that meet every Saturday morning at The Bunker C.I.C rehearsal rooms on Stockton Road, Sunderland. The group performed a selection of Christmas songs in harmony, adding to the evening’s festive feel.
With Black Friday weekend kicking-off, customers were treated to discounts of up to 40% on selected brands, and given the opportunity to buy tickets for a prize-draw with proceeds from the evening going to Red Sky Ball, a charity dedicated to raising money in support of CHUF and children’s heart units across the North East. Many local businesses clubbed together to provide some excellent prizes for the draw in support of this wonderful charity. Special thanks go to Hotspur 1364, Be Found Be Chosen, Nomination Sunderland, Waterbabies, Hair House, TCL at Home, Urban Decay, Sunderland Bid, Port of Call, The Palm Sunderland, Ready Steady Explore, Lancome, Cherry Blossom Florists and Fortnum and Mason for their wonderful contributions.
Customer service is the real beating heart of Designer Childrenswear and this is exemplified by it’s wonderful team. Members from all areas of the business were on hand throughout the evening to aid customers with their requests and to take the stress out of the Black Friday shopping experience.
“Customer service has always been our first priority. This is why generations of families remain loyal to us. They become friends, and it’s a joy to watch their children grow and then to dress their children’s children years later. This is something we are very proud of.” Explains Brenda.
