New Collection: Stella McCartney Junior – Easy & Playful Luxury Comes Home

Stella McCartney is a British fashion designer best known for her eponymous label. Born in September 1971 to former Beatles member Sir Paul McCartney and wife Linda McCartney. Stella’s interests in fashion started from a young age, this was inspired by travelling the world with her parents. At the age of 13 she had began to design her own clothes. Her passion for designing continued and in 1995 McCartney went on to gain a degree in fashion design at Central St. Martins whilst here she served an apprenticeship at Edward Sexton.

Her graduate show was developed with the help of Edward, her friends Kate Moss and Naomi Campbell modeled the collection. The tuition continued where she mastered the art of fabric selection, tailoring and cutting. In 1997 she became Creative Director at Parisian couturier Chloe, Sexton played an invaluable role in McCartney’s early success.

In October 2000 McCartney won the Vogue Designer of the Year award. She is renowned for her sharp, simple tailoring with a feminine edge and considerate approach to a wearable design.

“It’s not about what it looks like in the studio or on the runway,” she once told Women’s Wear Daily. “It’s what it looks like on a real person that matters. That isn’t easy, but it’s what’s fun.

In April 2001 McCartney started work for the Gucci Group under her own label as a global luxury brand. Showcasing her debut collection at Paris Fashion Week in October 2001. Audience members included her father Sir Paul McCartney, Jude Law, Sadie Frost and Damien Hirst.

Following in the footsteps of her mother Linda, she is a staunch supporter of animal rights and a strict vegetarian – she refuses to use leather or fur in any of her designs. Instead, her shoes are made of vinyl or plastic and all belts and bags are made from raffia and fabric.

McCartney has designed for celebrities including Madonna, Annie Lennox, Gwyneth Paltrow and Jude Law. Now one of the most renowned and accomplished designers of the 21st century with a lifelong commitment to sustainability.

In 2010 the first Stella McCartney Kids collection debuted, capturing the spirit and energy of kids today for boys, girls and babies ages newborn to 14 years.
